18 Animal-Shaped Sandwiches
Today, November 3rd, is National Sandwich Day, because it’s the birthday of the man who created the food item, John Montagu (1718-1792), the Fourth Earl of Sandwich (seriously). Supposedly, Montagu invented the food during a marathon 24-hour gambling session during which he wanted to be able to eat with only one hand. The solution he came up with by wedging his food between pieces of bread was the ancestor of the modern sandwich. (Funny fact, Montagu was a major sponsor of Captain James Cook, who named the islands of Hawaii the Sandwich Islands when he first discovered them.)
Rather than celebrate the incredible variety of things that can be put into sandwiches, however, we’re going to take this opportunity to look at some inventive things that can be made out of sandwiches. We hope you’re hungry, because we’ve got 18 Animal-Shaped Sandwiches.

We’ve been trying to make a sandwich trunk like that for years, but our elephant sandwiches always end up looking more like stop sign sandwiches.

It seems odd that this shark is made of roast beef and ham. Where’s the shark meat?

Very nice.

This one’s rather meta, because the giraffe’s mouth is also a self-contained face (with the nostrils doubling as a second pair of eyes).

We’re not exactly sure what this is supposed to be, but it sure ain’t pretty.

Though not all that elaborate, this might be the most effective.

How did they do that, with the scales and everything!?

We’re really not sure about this one. It’s either some kind of alien, or maybe a sloth, or a small insect.

Something tells us that this young frog didn’t live to see adulthood.

We like the use of pickles to convey a centipede’s legs, but we imagine that some nice, big wedge fries might be more effective towards that end.

This one never gets old.

Possibly the most unappetizing of today’s sandwiches.

Not sure what’s going on here, but it might help if they took off their headphones.

Red hair, pasty white skin: It’s a ginger sandwich!

This seems to be a young girl, a young girl with a goatee.

We’d rather our food not look like the thing that died to make it, thank you very much.

This is either a person with very frizzy hair and a big nose, or some sort of reptile.

Looks like someone lifted up a rock at the beach and found dozens of those tiny crabs.

Thanks for the compilation! The little girl with the “goatee” is actually Lola from “Charlie and Lola.” Fantastic kids show!
