The 10 Most Challenged Books in America
In case you didn’t know it (or hear about it over at our big brother The L Magazine) we’re currently celebrating Banned Book Week here in the U.S., which means reading up on the rich tradition of literary censorship in America. One way you might familiarize yourself with popular targets is by reading Banned Book Week’s listicle of The 10 Most Challenged Books in America.
Their list outlines which titles most frequently come under fire from self-appointed moral guardians at schools, in libraries and bookstores around the country and explains the nature of their cause for concern–as you might expect, it’s mostly about sex, violence and religion, in that order. Our favorite is Uncle Bobby’s Wedding by Sarah S. Brannen, which, as you might guess from the book cover art, is a children’s book about a girl whose gay uncle is getting married. Apparently marriage is now a no-no.

People are always trying to find some bad in everything. Its a childrens book get a LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
