7 Spiffy Cars With Names

Today is Name Your Car Day, a truly ridiculous occasion that we can only hope will soon be replaced by Name Your Bike Day (ours is called Kandinsky). In the meantime, though, we kind of appreciate the idea of treating cars like boats and giving them names, it makes something so hard and mechanical a little softer and gentler. Not sure what name to give your vehicle? Take inspiration from these 7 Spiffy Cars With Names.

The Mach 5 in Speed Racer (2008/1967)

If we had to pick one of these vehicles for ourselves, it would probably be the super-sleek and badass Mach 5.

K.I.T.T. in Knight Rider (1982/2008)

No argument here, obviously, it’s just awesome.

Herbie in Herbie Fully Loaded (2005)

The only way to make a beat-up VW Bug with expressive headlights tolerable is to give it an equally cutesy name.

Eleanor in Gone in 60 Seconds (2000/1964)

Sure, you might also call it “Mustang”, but giving her a name made her all the more alluring.

Bumblebee in Transformers (1984/2007)

Even though the new movies are super-lame, Bumblebee used to be the coolest Autobot.

The Mean Machine 00 in Wacky Races (1968)

Admittedly, all the cars in this old Hanna-Barbera show had names, but the bad guys’ was the best.

The Mystery Machine Van in Scooby-Doo (1969)

It’s often been likened to the kind of van a kidnapper might drive, or the sort a punk rock band might tour in, all of which only adds to its mystery.

We’re convinced we missed a bunch, so let us know in the comments.
