13 High-Tech Steampunk USB Flash Drives

Yesterday, while reading a couple of New York Times pieces about e-books–one about how users claim they read more now, and another about Barnes and Noble’s new model–we began to think that one way we might ease into the experience of using an e-reader would be to find one that’s retrofitted to look less sleek and cold. Like, say, a steampunk e-book. Sadly, we could find no such gadget (readers: let us know if you’ve seen/got one).

We did, on the other hand, come across a great deal of super-sophisticated modern technology sheathed in copper and steel. There’s something oddly awesome about a gadget that’s at once so contemporary it’s practically futuristic that’s nonetheless been made-over with a great deal of metallurgic artistry to look like some contraption from 150 years ago. So, until we can read on a steampunk e-book, we’ll store our library on these 13 High-Tech Steampunk USB Flash Drives.

We really hope this one lights up when it’s plugged in.

Nice rusting effect. Hopefully that doesn’t clog the ports.

Nice woodwork!

Looks like it’s actually steam-powered.
