10 Famous Unions in Pop Culture

Yesterday was Labor Day, which we found out was actually originally a Canadian holiday sparked by labor disputes in Hamilton and Toronto in the 1870s. American labor leader Peter J. McGuire was visiting Toronto in 1882 when he came across one such celebration, and decided to import the idea to the U.S. He organized the first ever American Labor Day celebration, which took place in New York City on September 5 1882. In honor of Peter and all the Hamiltonians and Torontonians toiling away in steel mills back in the day, we’ve organized this listicle of 10 Famous Unions in Pop Culture, beginning, appropriately, with a film starring a guy from Toronto (John Candy), and a guy from Hamilton (Eugene Levy).
