Chiptune Versions of 12 Michael Jackson Hits
We’ve been listening to a lot of chiptune lately – you know, that genre of music created using video game audio technologies from the 80s that are capable of something like 60 different notes. We’ve especially been blasting delightful 8-bit versions of some of our favorite pop songs, and one of the most chiptuned artists, you won’t be surprised to know, is the recently deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Accordingly, we’ve made you this mixtape featuring Chiptune Versions of 12 Michael Jackson Songs. Enjoy.
“Rock With You”
“Off the Wall”
A little obscure, perhaps, but also one of our all-time favorite Michael Jackson tracks.
“Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough”
“Beat It”
Face it, the guitar solo in this song was practically designed with its chiptune conversion in mind.
“Billie Jean”
“Thriller”
Doesn’t work quite as well as you might hope, despite the fact that the music video is basically a video game.
“Smooth Criminal”
“Bad”
We’re kind of impressed by how well this one turned out.
“Liberian Girl”
It sounds so melancholic and dark in chiptune.
“Man in the Mirror”
Even the 8-bit version has us tearing up to that dramatic crescendo.
“The Way You Make Me Feel”
Kind of awesome, if maybe a little embellished. Whatever, it works.
“Black or White”
There’s a better version, but we’re not allowed to embed it.
