13 Famous Left-Handers

Today is International Left-Handers Day, which means that all around the world people will be joining hands (only their left hands, somehow) and celebrating the rich lives and momentous accomplishments of left-handed folk everywhere. And with only 7 to 10 percent of the world’s population being left-handed, it’s kind of amazing to see how much those select few have achieved. Don’t believe us? Check out these 13 Famous Left-Handers.

Barack Obama

That’s right, the current President of the United States of America and savior of the world is gonna make everything right with his left hand.

Bill Clinton

Indeed, the preceding Democratic U.S. prez was also a lefty, although he apparently did different sorts of things with his dexterous hand.

Gerald Ford

Richard Nixon’s replacement had a stronger sense of right and wrong than his predecessor, owing in part, surely, to his left-handedness.

Benjamin Franklin

Yep, one of the founding framers signed the Declaration of Independence with his left hand. He also apparently played chess with his left hand, if the painting above is to be trusted.

Fidel Castro

The long-time leader of embargo-plagued Cuba was a flag-waving communist. To make matters worse, he waved his lefty politics defiantly with his left hand.

Richard Simmons

The delightfully crazy and entertaining exercise guru and pop culture punching bag got America fit again (kinda) leading with his muscular left hand.

Matt Groening

The creator of The Simpsons and Futurama did all that drawing left-handed.

John Dillinger

Maybe that’s why he was so exceptionally good at shooting guns and robbing banks.

Kurt Cobain

The tragic leader of Nirvana played guitar (and, presumably, consumed the drugs that eventually killed him) using his left hand.

Jimi Hendrix

Another legendary rock star from Seattle who was left-handed and died of an overdose. Weird…

Tim Allen

The host of “Tool Time” within the fictional world of Home Improvement must have spent a lot of extra cash outfitting his workshop with lefty tools.

Angelina Jolie

Whether gliding through gun fights or scooping up orphans from developing countries, Jolie relies on lefty to get the job done.

Jean Seberg

The original hipster girl brandished her International Herald Tribunes up and down the Champs-Elysees with her left hand.
