Alternate Covers for the 100 Best Albums of the Last 40 Years
In the kind of advertising stunt that will instantly win over music nerds everywhere, Beck’s (the beer, not the nerdy musician) commissioned 10 graphic artists to come up with new cover art for 10 albums culled from Pitchfork’s Best Albums of the Decade lists from the last 4 decades. After those images were unveiled, the floor was opened up for artists to pick one of the remaining 90 albums and produce an alternate cover.
All the titles have been claimed, but only a little over a quarter of the final submissions are in. Our favorite of the Alternate Covers for the 100 Best Albums of the Last 40 Years so far has got to be Fred Blunt’s cover for Sly and the Family Stone’s There’s a Riot Going On. That said, some seem vastly inferior to the originals, like the one included after the jump.

We love the style and the cute characters, it just doesn’t really have anything to do with the music is all.
