9 Presidents’ Summer Vacation Spots
The whole idea of a president needing a vacation sounds, to be honest, more than a little wimpy. After all, you’re the leader of the free world, and the free world never takes a break. If “vacation” was code for “diplomatic trip abroad,” we might understand, but every president seems to make a point of vacationing within the U.S. Speculations are that the Obamas will be spending a chunk of August at Martha’s Vineyard, but honestly we’d much rather see them head to Alaska, or, even better, France.
Looking over mental_floss’s listicle of 9 Presidents’ Summer Vacation Spots, though, that’s looking pretty unlikely. The best we can really expect from Obama, then, might be a hunting trip. He could follow in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt, pictured at right, who vacationed in Colorado in the summer of 1905, where he hunted bears for three weeks. Now that’s a hard-working president!
