7 Perplexing Music Samples
Tracking the strange and winding paths that lead from the funk, R&B, pop and reggae hits of yesteryear to the hip hop hits of today can be fairly torturous (especially when dealing with indie producers who don’t have the money to afford rights to expensive samples). Thankfully, Luke Carr from our sister/big brother site The L Magazine recently assembled a listicle explaining the origins of 7 Perplexing Music Samples on his blog King Kong Millions. We really enjoyed discovering the origins of one of our favorite Daft Punk songs, which you’ll find after the jump along with a notable omission from his list.
Edwin Birdsong’s “Cola Bottle Baby” (Duh!)
But what about the origin of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s “03 Bonnie & Clyde”?
Which was also tapped for Toni Braxton’s “Me and My Boyfriend”…
Tupac’s “Me and My Girlfriend”
