7 Fictional Secret Counter-Terrorism Agencies
A secret American counter-terrorism force set up during the previous presidential administration’s term, most likely under the auspices of VP Dick Cheney, is now coming to light and forcing the Obama administration to consider more thorough investigations into the previous White House’s shady practices. To get some sense of what sort of agency they might be dealing with (whether manipulative, honest, dangerous, incompetent, what have you), we suggest trial investigations of these 7 Fictional Secret Counter-Terrorism Agencies.
Impossible Mission Force from Mission: Impossible
Never mind that their acronym is IMF, this benevolent anti-terrorist squad has gone through more incarnations than any other in fiction (we’re fairly sure), although the suave original remains our favorite.
SD-6 from Alias
Informed by preceding fictional anti-terrorism agencies, SD-6 rides a fine line between counter-terrorism and actual terrorism. We sort of lost track of the double-, triple-, quadruple-, quintuple-crossings as the series reached its conclusion, but damn if this isn’t the kind of evil squad Cheney was likely keeping.
The International Contract Agency or The Agency from Hitman
Whether in the movie or the video game series, Hitman is hired, freelance-style, by shady group The Agency, which ultimately turns on him in the movie.
Omega Sector in True Lies
The spy agency that Arnold works for, if you’ll recall, is the watch manufacturer-evoking Omega Sector, which he later tries to recruit his wife to as well.
Manticore from Dark Angel
The series opens when a group of purpose-bred super-agents escape from Manticore HQ, and though things got a little confusing in the later seasons, we’re pretty sure this was another of those agencies that seemed as bad as or worse than the groups they were supposed to police. And speaking of which…
Team America from Team America World Police
Pretty much as incompetent and disaster-prone as anti-terrorism squads come, we’re especially fond of Team America’s HQ is in Mount Rushmore.
Medusa from the Jason Bourne series
Another back-stabbing super-agent breeding/programming group, the series of novels and films that make up the Bourne trilogy open just as the covert counter-terrorism group Medusa turns on their best soldier.
