9 Parodies of Tiananmen Square’s Tank Man
One of the most iconic images of modern history is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary: on June 5th, 1989 an unknown man faced down a row of tanks on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, where months of protest had finally ceased when the military removed protesters from the public plaza by force. Nobody ever discovered who the solitary protester was, but the image of him standing in the way of those tanks is among the most oft-reproduced in the world. Not to trivialize history or anything, but here are 9 Parodies of Tiananmen Square’s Tank Man.

Is this about radical vegetarianism? Or urban farming?

How desolate and dystopic.
Tiananmen Lord of the Rings

Except Gandalf gets taken down after he says that.

Obviously.

Subversive techy comic.

Is this some sort of statement about China’s polluted rivers?
Tiananmen Olympics

Clever.
Tiananmen Sumo

Not exactly non-violent, but cool.
Tiananmen Russell Crowe
In one of our absolute favorite South Park episodes, the boys watch a show called Fightin’ Round the World, which features Russell Crowe doing just that, most notably in Tiananmen Square.

Late addition via Fubiz of the Tiananmen Tank Man with a camera phone in Tehran.
