In these days of over-merchandised movie franchises whose dwindling box office returns have to be supplemented by copious schwag sales, it’s no surprise that licensing deals are producing some truly atrocious tie-in items. Witness, for instance, the absurd filmic footwear featured in StreetLevel’s listicle 10 Sneakers Inspired by Movies (helpfully divided into 5 good and 5 bad). We’re not sure why the Air Jordans based on Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing are on the bad side of the list, but we’re not arguing with the ridiculousness of the Nike “Freddy Kruegers” inspired by Nightmare on Elm Street, Gremlins Reebok Pumps and Alien Reebok Stompers extrapolated from Aliens (pictured) shoes. That said, why are the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Nikes deemed passable?
