As several past lists have proven, making a decent album cover is about as challenging as making a good album. Even worse, if you make a really good album cover you can make people forget (for a moment) how crappy the music behind it is. Every so often, though, a truly spectacular album and an outstanding cover combine to create some kind of iconic artifact whose audio and visual styles are completely indistinguishable. The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is one such album, so unmistakable that the folks at Am I Right rounded up no fewer than 62 Sgt. Pepper’s Cover Parodies. Most of them are less than stellar, but we were fairly impressed with electronic musician Jun Fukamachi’s version (at right), where everything is backwards.
