10 Failed Toy Lines Based on Movies

We remember that, as kids, we were over-excited for every stupid new action movie that came out and eager to buy the accompanying toy line. Accordingly, we were very disappointed whenever a new movie didn’t come replete with its attendant merchandising blitzkrieg. “Why couldn’t every movie be an elaborate toy ad like Transformers?”, we wondered.

Well, as any studio exec well-versed in the ways of late-capitalist media and marketing (or an astute 7 year-old) could tell you, some blockbuster franchises just don’t lend themselves to toy-making. Such is the case with many of the films featured in Topless Robot’s listicle of 10 Failed Toy Lines Based on Movies, although we’re not convinced that the Waterworld toys were such a failure. Check out how cool the Deacon (Dennis Hopper) figurine at right looks.
