Sure, advertising today gets away with a strange post-gender extremist sexism, but back in the day there was a kind of homey casualness to sexist advertising. Of course, reading the image against the grain, we could take the woman’s unusual outfit to be a uniform, and maybe she’s actually a flight attendant heading out to work while her husband drinks himself into a stuppor while having radio sex with some distant lover. Just saying.
