Remembering 10 Failed Rapper Clothing Lines
It seems distant now, but between the mid-90s and mid-aughts, just about every rapper with a platinum album launched a clothing line. Of course, few were successful and only P. Diddy’s Sean John amounted to anything we might consider stylish (although P. Diddy isn’t really much of a rapper so maybe doesn’t count).
So many jumped on the baggy jeans, velour sweatsuits and big hoodies branding bandwagon that we sort of lost track until many of them quietly pulled the plug on their runway dreams. Complex does some invaluable failed fashion archeology in their listicle Remembering 10 Failed Rapper Clothing Lines. We’re a little embarassed for already knowing about most of these brands, we were surprised to learn that in 1997 Fat Joe (pictured at right) had launched and folded FJ560 – which we’re assuming is a reference to the cothing line’s standard waistline.
