6 Snacks Prepared in the Lab
As firm proponents of knowing what’s in your plate, we’re mildly terrified by the over-produced edible science projects covered in mental_floss’s listicle of 6 Snacks Prepared in the Lab. On the other hand, we could probably get used to most of these products. After all, caffeinated beer is old news – although we would never try it, we’re used to seeing it on grocery store shelves. And a few of these things make sense, like caffeinated donuts and bacon salt (at right).
However, there’s really nothing appealing about a carbonated yogurt called Strawberrry Lemonade Jolt and manufactured by Yoplait under the brand name Fizzix. Frankly, it all sounds like some gross-out satire from a science fiction novel where a time-traveling hero visits a future supermarket and marvels at the crazy things people are eating. Like sliced jelly, a thin sheet of jelly that eaters can just unwrap and lay on a piece of toast. No spreading necessary. Goes well with caffeinated, carbonized bacon salt.
