6 Clever Sex Workers’ Rights Signs
Today is International Sex Workers’ Rights Day, and in honor of the various events taking place on this day of action (check out the Sex Workers Outreach Project’s website for events near you) we’ve rounded up some DIY sign suggestions should you find yourself in a city holding a sex workers rights parade. Here, then, are Listicles’ 6 Clever Sex Workers’ Rights Signs (we just might sport this first one to the SWOP event tonight in New York’s Washington Square Park).
More insightful than clever, I suppose: America’s inadequate sex worker rights and poor sex education policies are related.
Granted, the one at right is slightly outdated (though totally necessary), but the slogan at left ain’t too shabby either.
Normally we’d think using children in a labor dispute was manipulative, but in this case it seems pretty appropriate.
Not exactly clever, we just wonder what’s going through that cop’s head.
That blond lady is represented twice in the top 10 signs. She’s like the Jerry Rice of sex worker sign makers. I mean Jerry Rice is in two top 10 WR QB tandems of all time (with Montana and with Young). So that’s puhretty impressive.
The blond lady is Scarlot Harlot - she’s a legend in the sex worker rights movement, and is the person who coined the phrase “sex worker” in the late 1970s. More about her here: http://www.bayswan.org/Scarlot.html
