5 Phenomenal Feminist Blogs

National Women’s History Month is almost over, and though there’s been a marked lack of mainstream news coverage devoted to related events, many outstanding blogs and online outlets have done more than their share covering conferences, conventions, symposia and the like. For daily doses of women’s rights and women’s issues year-round (not just during NWHM), we recommend subscribing to these 5 Phenomenal Feminist Blogs.

Feministe

With its entertaining mix of pop culture commentary, feminist news, conference coverage and current events editorializing, Feministe is a lighter and broader read than more focused, academic and irregularly updated feminist blogs. Recent Sample Post: Regulating New Jersey’s Hair Down There.

Feministing

A similarly well-rounded and regularly updated forum for feminist news, academic women studies goings on, pop culture coverage and current issues in national politics. Recent Sample Post: What Rolling Stone and the Abstinence-Only Movement Have in Common.

Feminocracy

One of the funnier feminist blogs, Feminocracy’s four to five regular contributors provide a great mix of short and sweet content and longer essays discussing everything from current events and pop culture to broader issues in gender politics and media trends. Shameless

The online component of Canadian magazine Shameless caters to a younger audience, so content is more focused on pop culture and lifestyle than some of the other blogs featured here. While the language is less tinged with the murky lingo of gender studies, Shameless also serves as an excellent aggregator of various goings on missed by many feminist blogs. Recent Sample Post: Alison Lee: Feminist Porn Awards Pioneer.

Feminist Finance

Not so regularly updated and somewhat lacking in visual style, Feminist Finance is probably the most coherent and successful blog melding economic news and feminist politics (with economic woman a close second). Recent Sample Post: The Economy and Your Family (Planning)
