12 Never-Produced Futuristic Vehicles

Every time there’s a major auto show in town or cool new future epic at the multiplex, we get a little carried away fantasizing about transportation for the future. Like those cool Lexus pods from Minority Report. Turns out that snappy concept cars and the like have existed since at least 1938, when the Buick Y-Job was prototyped then never produced.

Since then, wacky vehicular brainstorming sessions have produced myriad strange planes, blimps and automobiles. These are outlined in WebUrbanist’s listicle of 12 Never-Produced Futuristic Vehicles, our favorite of which is the monocycle (pictured at right). Looking at it, though, we suddenly realized that a similar never-produced variation appeared recently on one of our favorite TV shows.

Sure, it looks a little awkward and unpleasant at first, but 300 miles to the gallon at 200 miles per hour! That’s like, accross the country really fast on one tank of gas, or something.
