Weekly Wednesdays: 6 Green Listicles
For all our efforts to offer you, dear readers, as many environmentally-minded listicles as we can read, the greening of the Interweb is advancing at such a pace that we honestly can’t keep up with all the eco-friendly listicles.
What better way, then, to do justice to all the green listicles (”greensticles”?) than to dedicated this edition of our weekly list-of-lists, Weekly Wednesdays, to some of the best recent enviro-centric listicles. Here, then, for your environmental bettering and ours, are this week’s 6 Green Listicles.
- 7 Best CFL Bulbs For The Green Shopper: We’ve long put off buying CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) bulbs for our apartment. Originally our excuse was valid: while we were subletting a rich friend’s wine cellar, we simply didn’t have any lights. Lately, our reasons have tended to be economic (”they’re so expensive!”) and aesthetic (”they create such hideous white light!”). Technology moves fast though, and now, as this listicle shows, there are affordable, energy-saving, long-lasting, pleasant light-emitting CFL bulbs readily available. (via Huffington Post)
- 10 Tips for a Greener Bedroom: As mentioned above, our bedrooms have tended to be very un-green (that wine cellar we slept in for six months was most white and rosé), so these easy steps to a more environmentally sound lair are very welcome. The point about keeping alarm clocks and stereos away from our head to avoid disruptive electromagnetic waves is well-taken, especially since we’ve been using our alarm clock as a pillow for several years now. - 5 Green Living Solutions You Can Handle: We’re proud to say we’ve been doing all of these (even composting!) for a while now, and if we can do it so can you. And that’s coming from someone who’s lived in wine cellars most of their life and doesn’t own a pillow! (via Huffington Post)
7 Most Un-Green Products of 2008: This listicle had us in stitches until we read about the in-car microwave (of which we are now proud owners) and Poop Freeze (pictured at right), which we just gave to our best dog-owning friend. We’re still waiting for our virtual skylights to arrive in the mail.
- 7 Green Ways To Get Rid Of Unwanted DVDs: Looking to get rid of unwanted holiday DVD gifts? This helpful listicle offers solutions to an oft-encountered, seldom-solved digital era dilemma. From online buy-back companies to charitable donation services that offer tax incentives, there are DVD disposal solutions for the laziest and most enterprising alike. (via Huffington Post)
- Top 5 Environmental Newsmakers of 2008: Though this listicle includes mostly familiar names (Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, Al Gore), there are two additions we didn’t know much about. James Hansen, one of NASA’s experts on climate change, suggested last year that oil executives should go on trial for crimes against humanity. Awesome. Funnily enough, the other interesting entry is an oli executive, T. Boone Pickens, who announced his plan in 2008 to start work on what would become the world’s largest electricity-generating windmill farm in his native Texas. Maybe we can compromise and simply put most oil executives on trial.
