Big Money Mondays: 10 Funny-Looking Electric Cars
The Detroit Auto Show opened yesterday, offering a hint of what America’s auto industry might resemble in its very uncertain future. As The New York Times notes, Detroit’s Big 3 are finally facing the music and pushing a predominantly hybrid fleet this year. To our surprise, the Times piece questions whether consumers will be easily enticed by the new fuel-efficient designs despite their comparatively hefty price tags.
We seriously believe – despite all evidence to the contrary – that environmentalism will trump economy in this case. Therefore, in this installment of our weekly financialisticle Big Money Mondays, we take a look at some of the most eye-catching fuel-efficient automobiles: 10 Funny-Looking Electric Cars.
The 2009 Venturi Electric Car

Wind turbine optional. Also available with hydro-electric dam attachment.
The 2007 Mitsubishi i Miev Sport

Only available in hospital hallway-green.
The 2009 Phoenix Motorcars SUV-Pickup

Actually a Ford design built of fiber-glass and powered by a blender motor. One of those really fancy, expensive blenders though.
The 2008 Dynasty IT Sedan

This is absolutely not a VW Beetle with an ugly paint job and higher price (wink).
The 2008 Reva Electric Car

Also available as a convertible:

Not available in normal-people colors.
The 2007 Nissan Pivo 2

It only looks like it can go underwater (believe us, we tried), but, oddly it can be driven by an octopus.
The 2007 Aptera Diesel Hybrid

This one was actually sent to us from our greener future-selves to help us with getting off the whole oil thing.
The 2004 Eliica

This bad boy was sent to us by the Ghostbusters of the future.
The 2008 Green Vehicles Triac

This one isn’t actually electric, but works like the Flinstones’ car.
The 2005 Peugeot Moovie

With no visible wheels and a name like “Moovie”, we’re guessing this one runs on imagination.
Honorable Mention for Anticipating the Green Trend: The 1947 Nissan Tama Electric Car

60 years ahead of the curve and prettier than any electric car since, we’re hoping to bring the Tama back.

[...] news and listicles of late has been about green transportation alternatives, high-speed trains and fuel-efficient cars, there remains something to be said for a big-budget collision between gas- or diesel-guzzling [...]
Turns out the folks at TreeHugger have some of the same concerns over electric car design.
Makes good ideas come real.
