67 Best Cookie Recipes
For no apparent reason (save the novelty value of randomness), foodie magazine Gourmet recapped its own history today with a list of favorite cookie recipes for each of its 67 years in print. Be warned, each recipe is accompanied by one of Gourmet’s mouthwatering close-up cookie shots that will have you at your baking stations in no time flat.
Looking through the decades, the cookies from the 70s look like the best batch out of the top 67. This might, maybe, have something to do with the unprecedented richness of that decade’s cookie fare, which Gourmet chalks up to the 70s being the first period of widespread food processor ownership. Favorites among them (with recipes linked):
Dutch Caramel Cashew Cookies (1972)
Crescent Cheese Cookies (1973)
Somewhere between croissant, jam-filled cookie and cheesy-sweet dumpling, these moist and tender moonshaped treats can get to your tummy any number of ways.
Greek Butter Cookies (1974)
You may not know how to pronounce the Greek original Kourambiedes, but you know exactly how these are supposed to taste and feel: sweet, soft and buttery around the outside, dry and crunchy on the inside.
Irish Coffee Crunchies (1977)
Whiskey, coffee, oatmeal and cream. What other cookies could you possibly even waste time making after finding these? Somehow Gourmet manages to cook up some interesting entries for each decade, like the pecan tassies of 1985, or the chocolate Sambuca crinkle cookies of 1999.
